Video 1 decking with the right tools

We are now going to look at how to install the Synthetic Teak-decking products. In order to lay  correctly, it is vital to have the right tools....

To cut the decking, aside from the usual Stanley knife, you will need a convex blade attachment as it produces less friction when cutting curved shapes giving more accurate results.

Cutters are equally important. We recommend using 45° angle cutters.  Also useful is a detachable straight-edged combination square which when detached provides a straight edge for cutting lines.  And when combined with the other piece, allows you to create your right angles.

A standard steel tape measure is needed as is an adhesive spreader.  Note that the spreader has 3 mm notches.  When using the spreader try to keep it vertical to ensure there is sufficient depth to the adhesive.

If you angle it either way you decrease the depth of these notches which prevents the adhesion of the material to the deck.  To apply the adhesive you also need a standard sausage gun with a nozzle which is cut at a distance from the tip depending on the size of the bead required.

Next, we have an extendable roller, also vital to the operation.

You twist the handle to extend the length of the bar, twist again to lock it. The roller allows you to apply greater pressure to the deck to push out any bubbles that may be under the adhesive and to ensure a good bond with the deck.

A standard cartridge gun is also needed plus a reel of coarse 40 grain sandpaper for sanding the deck prior to and during preparation and for roughing up parts of the Teak-it-Easy as and when necessary.  Last and by no means least, you will also need a reel of standard masking tape, preferably coloured, as it contrasts better with the surface of the deck.
